After suffering years of neglect, deterioration, and lack of restoration funding, the lighthouse was literally falling to pieces. As a significant part of American history, efforts gained momentum in 2006 for its complete restoration including the irreplaceable first-order Fresnel lens. This is the only publication on the subject and has been overwhelmingly accepted for its historical value. It covers the history of all three lights: the first (lost) lighthouse; its successor destroyed during the Civil War; and, the third light that stands tall and strong today, which opened to the public in 2013 for the first time since its completion in 1872. Highly illustrated with full-color photography and historical drawings. 8 ½ x 11, soft cover, 34 pages. By Cheryl Shelton-Roberts and Bruce Roberts.
